I only made sculptures a few times, and on a small scale.
In 2003, I was approached about making a life-size bronze of St. Therese. I was a bit reluctant, but after some research and a visit from a foundry owner to my studio, I decided to take it on.
Luckily, an order of nuns devoted to this saint exists in San Diego. I had several conversations with them, and they even lent me the clothing for my model to wear.
It was challenging, but it turned out well. Everyone was happy with the end product, and we ended up casting five.
The last one went to Rome, which was interesting for me, as it was where I first became fascinated with “artists” while staring at Michelangelo’s sculpture of Moses.
